Charlottesville City youth can paddle Virginia's largest river as Charlottesville Parks and Recreation teams up with the Float Fisherman of Virginia to host its first annual "Kids Float on the James River". Meet at Carver Center and head to Scottsville and float to the Hardware River Landing. Transportation, canoes, paddles, and lifejackets provided along with lunch, snacks, and drinks. Stress Busters!
We all need to bust the stress in our lives to be more productive. This was sent to me by Sue Thompson of the RE/MAX Premier Group in Dallas. Thanks Sue!
Diversions give the mind a break from problem solving and burden bearing. It is impossible to be consumed with worry when something else is captivating your interest.
Push the pressures out of your body through twenty minutes of aerobic exercise.
Talk out your tension with a safe and trusted friend.
Change channels in your brain. Problem solving is more effective when the mind frequently rests from a problem rather than obsessing on it continuously.
Schedule several five-minute slots during the day to "let down", and slow the mind and body. Listen to relaxing music. Pray and meditate.
Make amends whenever possible. Grant forgiveness rather than nursing grudges.
To see clearly in the midst of blinding stress: Sleep eight to nine hours a night; Eat well-balanced meals; Exercise twenty to thirty minutes, thress times a week.
When overwhelmed, step back, buy yourself some time, and stop trying so hard. Everything doesn't have to be "fixed" today.
Avoidance heightens anxiety. Evaluate what can be done and do it. Don't get stuck in the quicksand of an "all or nothing" approach.
No one was designed to be Everything to Everybody. Only God can fill that job description.

Albemarle County and Charlottesville in development are forcing new development to pay attention to affordable housing.
Albemarle County continues to grow and the county is trying to keep up with it. The county is currently doing a study on their web site on Community Development in the Eastern Connector Corridor.

The unexpected closes airport
Some things in life are beyond our control it appears, so we should always remember the "Serenity Prayer" as this clearly is beyond what any of us could control.
I believe this was a first for an airport, but others will be scouting the adjacent grounds as well.

BUYING GIFTS FOR MEN
Father's Day is Sunday. Buying gifts for men is not nearly as complicated as it is for women. Follow these rules and you should have no problems.
Rule #1: When in doubt, buy him a cordless drill. It does not matter if he already has one. I have a friend who owns 17 and he has yet to complain. As a man, you can never have too many cordless drills. No one knows why.
Rule #2: If you cannot afford a cordless drill, buy him anything with the word ratchet or socket in it. Men love saying those two words. "Hey George, can I borrow your ratchet?" "Okay. By the way, are you through with my 3/8" socket yet?" Again, no one knows why.
Rule #3: If you are really, really broke, buy him anything for his car. A 99 cent ice scraper, a small bottle of de-icer or something to hang from his rear view mirror. Men love gifts for their cars. No one knows why.
Rule #4: Do not buy men socks. Do not buy men ties. And never buy men bathrobes. I was told that if God had wanted men to wear bathrobes, he would not have invented jockey shorts.
Rule #5: You can buy men new remote controls to replace the ones they have worn out. If you have a lot of money, buy your man a big screen TV with the little picture in the corner. Watch him go wild as he flips and flips and flips. Forget the program; your entertainment is watching him have fun!
Rule #6: Do not buy any man industrial-sized canisters of after-shave or deodorant. I'm told they do not stink-they are earthy.
Rule #7: Buy men label makers. Almost as good as cordless drills. Within a couple of weeks there will be labels absolutely everywhere. "Socks. Shorts. Cups. Saucers. Door. Lock. Sink." You get the idea Again, no one knows why.
Rule #8: Never buy a man anything and then tell him he should read the instructions because the box says "some assembly required." It will ruin his special day. He will always have parts left over.
Rule #9: Good places to shop for men include Northwest Iron Works, Parr Lumber, Home Depot, Lowe's, John Deere, Valley RV Center and Les Schwab Tire. (NAPA Auto Parts and Sears Clearance Centers are also excellent men's stores. It doesn't matter if he doesn't know what the gift is. "From NAPA Auto, eh? Must be something I need. Hey! Isn't this a starter for a '68 Ford Fairlane? Wow! Thanks.")
Rule #10: Men enjoy danger. That's why they never cook (but they will barbecue). Get him a monster barbecue with a 100-pound propane tank. Tell him the gas line leaks. "Oh the thrill! The challenge! Who wants a hamburger?"
Rule #11: Men love chain saws. Never, ever, buy a man you love a chain saw. If you don't know why, please refer to Rule #7 (Remember what happens when he gets a label maker?)
Rule #12: It's hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or aluminum extension ladder. Never buy a real man a stepladder. It must be an extension ladder. No one knows why.
Rule #12.5: Rope. Men love rope. It takes us back to our cowboy origins, or at least the Boy Scouts. Nothing says "I love you" like a hundred feet of 3/8" manila rope. No one knows why.

HGTV has some great free email newsletters, filled with tips for your home. You can choose from these newsletters on their site (http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/newsletter): Ideas, Decorating, Gardening, Kitchen Design, Bath Design, and Quilting. I love the decorating newsletter! It's chock full of tips and ideas.
My favorite radio station is Lite Rock Z95.1 (http://www.literockz951.com/). I listen to it in the car and in the office. They have great music and fun contests! They have a community calendar on their web site, and you can also learn about the contests.
Taylor Hicks, last year's winner of American Idol, is coming to The Paramount Theater July 5 (http://www.theparamount.net/calendar_shows_TaylorHicks.aspx). Go to the web site to learn more and buy tickets.
I started watching American Idol this year, I was rooting for Melinda. I was sorry she didn't win, but I'm sure she'll be successful in the future.

I welcome your comments on development in the area. Here are my thoughts on this article...
Albemarle County only has so many acres available for development, and I believe we should be
careful as we develop.
Albemarle County in my opinion, asked the developers to give more to proffers of the county, and they did so. As long as our roads and schools are carefully watched for impact, the developers can help promote Albemarle County, and add to the tax base for all, I believe they should have a fair chance.
Glenmore after several years finally got approved.
Albemarle County and the city of Charlottesville are a special place to live, and we should strive to keep it that way.
